Chapter Seven

Combs grimaced, tendrils of worry and fear working through him, overshadowing the pleasant waves of bliss that had been coating his senses. Keeping in mind the fact that Ewan seemed to so easily handle the fact that he could extend his tail in human form, Combs hoped this wouldn’t be too different. “There is a side effect of drinking dragon’s blood that I completely forgot about,” he admitted.

Ewan lifted his head and scowled at him. “Really? I couldn’t tell.”

Biting back his own sarcastic comment, knowing he had to keep his head to explain—besides, his human had every right to be upset. Combs had left him wanting and in pain, even though he’d never intended to do that.

“I apologize, Ewan,” Combs said instead. “Kinsmet reminded me of the healing properties of dragon’s blood, and I jumped at the idea of helping you get well faster. In my haste, I forgot that most humans that drink from us do it while bonding, so they’re already in the process of getting release.”

“Getting release?” Ewan asked uncertainly.

“Aye.” Seeing the scowl crease Ewan’s brows, Combs realized the man wasn’t following. “A human asda bonds with his or her dragon by having sex. We share fluids and blood. This bonds our hearts and souls, extending a human’s life, since a dragon lives for centuries.”

Ewan stared at him for several seconds, processing that information. Then he frowned. “Are ye saying that we’re already bonded? I don’t have a choice in this?”

Hearing Ewan’s anger in his tone, Combs became quick to reassure. “Nay, Ewan. You have a choice. Because right now, the bond is one sided. Aye, you asked for my protection. You drank my blood, and you spilled your seed in me,” he explained, deciding blunt would be best. He almost smiled upon seeing the red hue creeping up the man’s neck and face.

Instead of calling attention to it, he forged ahead.

“In order to complete the bond, I would need claim you as well…drink your blood and spill in you,” he added, just so there wouldn’t be any confusion. “If you refuse, in time, the partially completed bond will fade.” Combs hated admitting that, but knew he had to be honest with this man to have any chance at keeping him.

After a couple moments of silence—a couple long moments—where Ewan’s jaw worked, his Adam’s apple bobbed, and his gaze landed on everything except Combs, he finally cleared his throat and stated, “Ye, uh…ye liked it when I stuck me, uh, me—” He couldn’t finish the thought. Instead, he waved his hand toward his groin. “Ye liked that? Why? How could ye?”

Instead of answering outright, Combs allowed the smile he’d been fighting to curve his lips. “Tell me this,” he murmured, lowering his voice into a soft purr. “When I slid my tail into your arse and massaged your pleasure button from the inside, didn’t you like that?”

Ewan’s eyes shot open and his face turned nearly scarlet in color. “I—uh—w-well—” He snapped his mouth closed and started to pull away.
